Sairaalakatu Housing, Kuopio

Kuopio is a harbour town in Finland’s lake district, and this project is for a development on a waterfront neighbourhood to the west of the grid plan town centre.

”Malmgreninkatu”, Sairaalakatu housing block, was made in collaboration with Lujatalo Building and Construction Company was the winning entry in the competition.

The heritage-listed hospital buildings at the centre of the site have served as college teaching spaces in recent decades. These buildings are now being transformed in phases into residential use. New residential buildings with underground carparking are also being designed to the north of the heritage buildings.

Further design has been continued and the north side of the site is under construction and the south side is beginning shortly.
