Pähkinälinna Housing, 2015

Maunula, Helsinki

This complementary project is built between an older block of flats residential area and a new infill of small detached houses.

The steep uneven site declines to east, the difference is in places over 8 meters. The small single stair buildings lie across the slope to save the terrain and to open  verdant views. The street view is composed of petite gable ends and greenery.

The ground bounding of the apartments is resolved using a 4,5 m high loft-storey. The through type elevator offers access to all levels. The small lobby opens to the street downstairs and the upper entrance is weather protected. The north end vehicular access is on natural level.  The small shared spaces are on the lowest level.
