Keinusaari Housing, Hämeenlinna

Keinusaari has a diverse assembly of residential and community service buildings located in the town centre of Hämeenlinna, right by the trainline between Helsinki and Tampere.

The common courtyard in the block is specially designed for elderly people.

The Keinukamari building on the north side combines group and single sheltered housing apartments for the elderly, as well as a restaurant and recreational facilities for the entire block.

In the Keinukulma building on the east side, all social housing apartments face the courtyard. A side corridor, with meeting points with views to the railways, provides a noise barrier against the railroad.

The three single stair apartment buildings were not specially designed for elderly people, but residents and tenants can take part in dining and other activities of the service building.

The sheltered living buildings consist of 99 apartments and 24 group apartment rooms. The resident-owned buildings have 52 apartments and the rental building has 23 apartments.

Recreational activities and an institutional kitchen are placed in a heritage listed customs warehouse on the block.
