Quotation, “Residential Environments in Finland, State Subsidized housing production 1984-1995”:

These distinctively massed low-rise blocks have been scattered like boulders in the rocky forest and adjusted with subtle type variation to the demanding terrain. Sand-lime brick and wood elevations have been enriched with rhythmical detail. The “transit areas”around the house, from the path to the front door, from the small yard to the big one have been carefully designed. There are four apartments in each building, two on the ground floor, two on the upper floor. The upper floor apartments have their terrace at ground level, near the entrance. In the ground floor dwellings, the terrace and entrance are on opposite sides of the building. Thus the entrances to apartments on top of each other are in different places, which affects the section
design even in apartments of the same size. This makes all apartments individual, especially when the terrace, too, is taken into account, even if the basic design solutions are similar.
