Leinelä Housing Area Plan

Vantaa, 2010

The plan is based on the winning competition entry in 2008 and was completed in 2010.

The main concept was to try to keep the landscape as wild and untouched as possible. An undulating ribbon of dwellings allows an alternation between private and public courtyards. The public courtyards have crossing paths linking the neighbour housing area to the forest on the other side of the Leinelä area. There is plenty of green space in between the stretches of the ribbon, so the valuable landscape of cliffs and wetlands can be preserved. This shape of the ribbon also allows to keep a green area between the new Leinelä area and the existing low rise housing area.
