Graani Service & Sheltered Housing Center

Mikkeli, 2003 & 2013

the Graani Service  & Sheltered Housing Center for the Elderly in Mikkeli, was built on the given central site in the Graani neighborhood.

The dominant volume contains mainly carefully studied double room dwellings on upper floors with a double height club room on every second level and a sauna-quest room unit on top, each with a lake view to Mikkeli centre.

In addition to the 52 individual dwellings there is a group apartment for 11 people on the upper floor of the lower wing.

The ground floor houses the service center: a double height restaurant, a gym with sauna and club rooms for hobbies.

Originally state-subsidization covered only one elevator. The other was added 10 years later as the residents need more care. It can also operate as a rescue and evacuation elevator.
