Social housing is perceived differently around the world, so the projects on the list are based on their local contexts.

In Finland social housing means traditionally affordable social housing that is mainly provided by municipality-owned companies and a few nationwide non-profit organisations. Anyway it is housing for everyone, and since the beginning of the 20th century we have had a tradition of the best architects working closely with housing associations to combine social responsibility and professional quality awareness. We also study and develope other ways of socially supportive and communal housing.

Dezeen has noted that we are once again in an era where the best architects want to design social housing. Kirsti Sivén & Asko Takala Arkkitehdit has been doing this for more than 40 years, and we still will.
